International Benchmarking Database |
The International Benchmarking Database is the core of the International Benchmarking Programme of BAKBASEL. Since the beginning of this project in the mid-90s, the database has been regularly updated, geographically extended and new indicators have been implemented. Today, it includes indicators for economic performance and location factors of sectors and regions in Europe and the USA. In terms of both regional industry-specific differentiation and data recentness, the IBD is unmatched. |

Regionalization of the database |
The International Benchmarking Database provides detailed information from different time periods for a manifold set of regions, sub regions and regional aggregates. The concept of the regional breakdown is based on the one hand on the idea of comparability of the IBD to national and international sources so international regional concepts are applied. On the other hand, the idea of Functional Urban Regions (FUR) is more helpful when it comes to analysing regions in an international context. This enables using the data to build comparable metropolitan areas and to present FURs. |

Key industries |
To get a clear picture of the economic structure of a region, it is sometimes necessary to group the various individual industries into larger sectors. Therefore, the industries in the International Benchmarking Database are divided as follows:
- New Economy Sector
- Old Economy Sector
- Traditional Sector
- Political Sector
- Urban Sector
