In an increasingly globalised world the part a region can take in economic growth depends mainly on its accessibility. The IBC Location Factor Module Accessibility consists of an analysis combining relocation costs with structural data of locations. The calculations are based on index values for the intercontinental accessibility and for the interregional (European-wide) accessibility. These indicators measure the accessibility of 400 European and 120 international regions based on minimal travel times between these centers and the final destination targeted. The times measured are based on detailed traffic network plans in respect to road, train and air traffic. The most recent figures date from fall 2003. The index values are obtained by using each target’s GDP to weigh importance of a regional location. The study is developed and updated regularly in collaboration with the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems (ETH Zurich) and the Centre for Economic Sciences (WWZ) of the University of Basel. Headline Figure Information of the study is contained in the IBC Intercontinental Accessibility Index and the IBC Interregional Accessibility Index..
